Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Adventure

Windy Valley (ウィンディーバレー Windī Barē?) is an Action Stage that appears in in Sonic Adventure, its enhanced port, Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut and the 2010 remaster of the game. It is a canyon-like valley high in the sky located at the Mystic Ruins. It is the second Action Stage played as Sonic, the first as Tails, and the third as Gamma. As with most other Action Stages in its games, Windy Valley has different level designs for each character, which have three optional missions each.

Description[]

Overall, Windy Valley is an area in the Mystic Ruins, accessed by using the Wind Stone at the Windy Cave. The first section in this Action Stage is a canyon-themed stage under a blue sky and full of vegetation. There are several circular mountains in the background and the terrain is a brownish and greyish rockoon formation with green grass. Most platforms are connected by bridges or Wind Paths. Most of the bridges are broken though. Windmills of such appear on the terrain, along with floating platforms with fans on top. Alongside that, there are also some fans that only work in Sonic's version.

The second section of Windy Valley takes place inside of a dark gray tornado. Instead of a beautiful scenery, this section includes violent winds and flying objects. Nevertheless, the platforms and set pieces are the same as the ones found in the previous section.

The third section of Windy Valley is a sky-themed stage under a clean, sunny blue sky; instead of a canyon or a tornado, this section is a floating island filled with brown rusty pathways and eagles flying through the sky. There is no vegetation or mountains here. Despite that, the terrain is still the same as the first section. Windmills are still present, some of which are humongous.

Story[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

After facing off against Dr. Robotnik near Tails' Work Shop and defeating his Egg Hornet, but losing the Chaos Emerald Tails had to him, Sonic and Tails decide that they have to find the other Chaos Emeralds to prevent the doctor from using them to power Chaos. They eventually find the Wind Stone and use it to go to Windy Valley. There, the two are caught by a tornado, but are soon able to escape and land on various rusty paths in the sky. After traversing them, the duo finds a Chaos Emerald.

Miles "Tails" Prower[]

After facing Dr. Robotnik near Tails' Work Shop and beating his Egg Hornet, but losing the Chaos Emerald he had to him, Tails and Sonic decide that they have to find the Chaos Emeralds to prevent the doctor from using them to power Chaos. They later find the Wind Stone and use it to go to Windy Valley. There, the two have a race to the Chaos Emerald there. In the end though, Tails wins.

E-102 Gamma[]

After the crash of the Egg Carrier, Gamma abandons Dr. Robotnik, and tasks himself with destroying the E-100 Series robots. After finding the Wind Stone and using it to go to Windy Valley, Gamma encounters E-103 Delta and destroys it, freeing the Animal inside of it.

Gameplay[]

In Sonic and Tails' versions of Windy Valley, there are multiple Wind Paths that make invisible trails. Using them will usually lead to new pieces of land.

Overview[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Sonic's version of the Action Stage starts off by dropping into a pit. There, he can perform a Homing Attack on several fans to take a shortcut. After this Sonic will reach a Wind Path to help him progress. Upon reaching a bridge, it will break, and Sonic will be forced to use a fan. Using it will result in Sonic being sucked into a tornado.

In the tornado, Sonic can use a spring to launch himself to a floating platform. After this, Sonic must use a Jump Pad to get to another floating platform, which has a trampoline Sonic can use to reach a bridge. Using the spring on the bridge will lead to Sonic bouncing off many other springs. After this, Sonic will reach one last spring in this section that allows him to escape the tornado.

After this, Sonic will end up in the sky where he can choose multiple paths to get through. Here, Sonic will find himself getting launched to many floating isles with rusty paths, rockets and fans. Using one more Wind Path will lead Sonic to the Chaos Emerald.

Miles "Tails" Prower[]

Tails' version of the Action Stage immediately starts off in the third section of Sonic's version. There, his stage is identical that in Sonic's, but he can fine more routes using his flight ability. The main objective here is to reach the Emerald before Sonic. As such, Tails must play the level faster then Sonic. However, Tails can clear this stage very fast if he uses his flight ability to fly over the stage.

E-102 Gamma[]

Gamma's version of the Action Stage starts off in the first section in Sonic's version. There, he can destroy enemies to increase time. Fans here are disabled, forcing Gamma to find other routes. Gamma's hovering ability is useful here as he cannot proceed without it. Upon finding E-103 Delta, Gamma engages in battle with him. Delta attacks by shooting homing missiles at Gamma or by hovering. Gamma must shoot Delta 5 times to destroy it.
