The Yellow Tail (イエローテイル,Ierōteiru?) is a recurring board type Extreme Gear that appears in the Sonic Riders series. It is Miles "Tails" Prower's character-exclusive Extreme Gear, meaning only he can use it, and his default Extreme Gear. It is one of the first Extreme Gears available in every game in the Sonic Riders series.
Tails was already comfortable with air tricks, so he caught on quick thanks to his trusty Yellow Tail Board and his many airborne talents. This board was created by Robotnik, Inc. Specifically for Tails
The Yellow Tail's design in Sonic Riders is that of a metal plated yellow-orange board with a yellow stripe ringing around it. It also has rectangular foot panels in the center of its top surface, with recesses on it.
Abilities and traits
As a Board-type Extreme Gear in Sonic Riders, the Yellow Tail is well-balanced in its attributes with average statistics, an average rate of fuel-consumption and is suited for general riding.
Like most other character exclusive Extreme Gears, the Yellow Tail does not possess any unique abilities of its own.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
Tails' Gear built anew from the ground up with a body made of transformable morphing metal.
The Yellow Tail returned in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, once again as Tails' trusty Extreme Gear. This version of Yellow Tail, however, is not explicitly that same as the one seen in Sonic Riders. According to its profile, it is a completely rebuilt Extreme Gear from the ground up, by Tails, with a body made of metal with transforming properties.
In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, the Yellow Tail received a redesign. In this game, the Yellow Tail resembles a bone-shaped yellow aircraft board. Its mid-section is colored white, with the section of the foremost front being yellow, while most of the rear is yellow, with a dark orange accent. It also has a platform on the top, made of two silver-colored grey foot panels with a grey area connecting them, to balance Tails.
Abilities and traits
As a Board type Extreme Gear in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, the Yellow Tail is well-balanced in its attributes with average statistics and is suited for general riding. Like most other character-exclusive Extreme Gears, the Yellow Tail does not possess any unique abilities of its own.
The Yellow Tail made another reappearance in Sonic Free Riders. According to its profile, Tails personally customized the Yellow Tail for himself. While it lacks overall power, it makes up for it in racing capabilities.
In Sonic Free Riders, the Yellow Tail is given a new redesign. In this game, the Yellow Tail has been given a hull-shaped, but still sleek and thin, board-like design. The edges of the Yellow Tail are colored orange, with red accents on the front and rear, while the top surface of it is grey, with two circles and orange and red markings decorating it.
Abilities and traits
As a Board type Extreme Gear in Sonic Free Riders, the Yellow Tail is, like in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, well-balanced in its attributes with average statistics and is suited for general riding.
Like in the previous titles, the Yellow Tail possesses no unique abilities of its own, but it can be equipped with two Gear Parts.
The Yellow Tail's first and only appearance so far has been in Sonic the Hedgehog #164's second story, "Sonic Riders - Part two", which served as a comic adaption of Sonic Riders. After Sonic returned to Freedom HQ, beaten and bruised by the Babylon Rogues, the hedgehog was at a loss of how to stop this group, who had promised to come to attack Knothole the next day. Tails, however, presented a solution to this problem, by giving themselves their own Extreme Gear, the Yellow Tail included, so they could face the Rogues on even grounds. While Knuckles took a look on the Yellow Tail, Tails pointed out that though the boards were prototypes, they were all functional.
The next day, Tails arrived on the Yellow Tail outside of Knothole, along with Sonic and Knuckles on their own Extreme Gear, and managed to intercept the Babylon Rogues with their Extreme Gear. Tails himself squared off against Wave on his Yellow Tail, though Wave dismissed the Yellow Tail as a piece of junk, much to Tails' anger. Eventually though, the heroes were successful in defeating the Babylon Rogues and driving them off.
