— Zazz, Sonic Boom #9

Zazz is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is a Zeti and a member of the Deadly Six.

Appearance[]

Zazz is a very tall and lanky Zeti, with very thin limbs and body structure. The upper half of his body is neon pink, while the rest of it from the waist down is pure black, ending in two-clawed feet with purple toes. A third much smaller claw appears to jut out from his heels. Zazz has a long tail that appears to be bent into a vague "Z" shape, similar to that of Knuckles the Echidna. Zazz has a row of small black spikes running down his back, from the base of his neck to the middle of his spine. Zazz's thin arms end in proportionately large five-fingered hands, each finger tipped with purple nails.

Zazz has an oblong head with a large gaping mouth, which is never closed. He has long, thin, sharp teeth and a long cyan tongue, which is almost always seen hanging out the side of his mouth. He has green irises with yellow sclera and black markings under each eye. On the top of his head, Zazz has a pair of striped horns that point outwards and have a black and light purple coloration, between them is a mohawk of dark purple hair. For attire, he wears a pair of black wrist cuffs with grey spikes on them, and a matching spiked collar.

While aiding Sigma, Zazz began wearing black chest and shoulder armor with the "Σ" symbol on front.

History[]

Worlds Unite[]

Deadly Six Archie

Zazz and the other Zeti under Sigma's control, from Sonic Universe #76.

Zazz and his teammates became slaves to Dr. Eggman after he took over the Lost Hex and subdued them using the Cacophonic Conch. However, Eggman's robotic minion Orbot was then possessed by Sigma, an evil intelligence from Earth in the year 21XX, who shattered the conch and freed the Zeti. They proceeded to force Eggman to build Sigma a new body, and then bullied him and Dr. Wily into converting Eggman's Badnik assembly line into one for Sigma's Mechaniloids. After the doctors created Sigma's Unity Engines and power-enhancing armor for the Deadly Six, however, Zavok led his teammates in rebellion, the group seeking to take the helm of Sigma's scheme to conquer the multiverse. However, Sigma had anticipated such treachery, and the armor the Deadly Six had been given became the tool of their enslavement. Zazz was soon sent through a Genesis Portal to Earth 20XX with Master Zik and Zomom to capture Mega Man, while their teammates went to Sonic's World to capture Sonic the Hedgehog.[1][2]

Zazz throws Zor

Zazz was later deployed alongside Zomom and Zeena to hunt down Wily and Eggman after they betrayed Sigma. When this search proved fruitless thanks to Xander Payne's intervention, the trio rejoined Zavok, Zik, and Zor to take charge of Sigma's Mechaniloids.[3] They thus led an assault on the Sky Patrol, and were quickly recognized to be under Sigma's control. Zazz notably fought Knuckles the Echidna, who had been equipped with Wood Man's Leaf Shield ability. Unfortunately, Zazz and his teammates soon turned their abilities to manipulating the heroic Robot Masters and Maverick Hunters aboard ship.[4]

While they were forcing the heroes to battle each other, Zazz suggested turning their powers on the Sky Patrol and crashing it. This plan was vetoed by Zavok, both because it would divide their already stretched energies and because it would result in their deaths as well as those of the heroes. However, their defeat was later insured by the Egg-Wily Uppity Robot Scrambler Cannon, which destroyed their armor and broke their hold on the heroic robots. Drained of power, the Zeti fell unconscious and were confined to the Sky Patrol's brig while the heroes faced their next challenge: Sigma's army of Maverick Time-Clones.[5] However, the events of this conflict were later erased due to Xander Payne's actions, returning Zazz and his teammates to the Lost Hex with no memory of their enslavement by either Eggman or Sigma.[6]

Zazz comics

Zazz hunting Mobini, from Sonic the Hedgehog Halloween ComicFest 2013.

At some point in the not-to-distant future, where Dr. Eggman had enslaved the Deadly Six with his Cacophonic Conch again, Zazz and the other members of the Deadly Six were rounded up by Zavok to capture Mobinis for Eggman.[7]

Personality[]

Zazz is quite possibly the most berserk member of the Deadly Six, given to violent and psychotic attacks on his enemies.

Powers and abilities[]

Zazz shares the abilities of all Zeti which include super strength and backs it up with a sharp set of claws. As a Zeti, Zazz also has the natural ability to manipulate magnetic fields which he can use to control machines and manipulate metals, though the latter application is limited by how advanced the machine he is trying to control is.[1] Zazz is also capable of projecting pink energy balls from his hands, and possesses claws sharp enough to harm Mega Man.[2]

Equipment[]

While in Sigma's service, Zazz wore armor constructed by Dr. Eggman and Dr. Wily. This armor enhanced all his abilities to such levels that he could control even technology from the year 21XX, but it was also equipped with a device that let Sigma control his mind.[1] This armor was later destroyed by the Egg-Wily Uppity Robot Scrambler Cannon.
