Tails, are you feeling okay?

— Zooey, Tails' Crush

Zooey[5] is a character that appears in the Sonic Boom series. She is an anthropomorphic vixen who lives in Hedgehog Village and is Miles "Tails" Prower's love interest.

Concept and creation[]

Zooey was named after Zooey Deschanel,[6] an American actress and singer-songwriter.

Appearance[]

Zooey is a humanoid vixen of average height and slender built. She has yellow fur with a white muzzle and inner ears, a small black nose, medium-large triangular ears, and blue eyes with one eyelash each. She also has a long fluffy tail with a white tip, long hair which she both wears in a red hairband and as a lock on each side of her head, a tuft of hair on her forehead, and white-tipped feet. For attire, she wears a crimson sheath dress with a white button near her left shoulder, crimson shorts, crimson bracelets, and crimson slippers.

History[]

TV series[]

Season one[]

SB S1E39 Justin Beaver fans

Zooey at a Justin Beaver autograph signing.

When the Justin Beaver fever came to the Seaside Island, Zooey became a mindless Justin fan girl and consumer after hearing Justin's mind control music. After spending her money on Justin's merchandise and autographs, Zooey attended his concert where she saw Justin and Dreamboat Express have a sing-off. During it, Zooey was freed from the mind control by Dreamboat Express, now Dude-itude.[7]

As Zooey carried on her daily routines around the Village, she was met by Tails, who had a crush on her, several times. In each encounter, Zooey saw him act either cool, manly, romantic or ritualistic towards her in awkward ways (as Tails just wanted to talk to her), but all it did was make her feel uncomfortable. When Zooey got caught by Giant Robot during one of Dr. Eggman's attacks though, she was saved by Tails, who got rid of the robots. Thankful to Tails, Zooey kissed her rescuer, now finally reciprocating his feelings.[8] Zooey later came to the Robot Battle Royale, where she saw Eggman steal Tails' Hypnobot at the end.[9]

SB S1E47 Amy Zooey Puppy Con

Becoming a Fuzzy Puppies fan, Zooey attended several meetings with her Fuzzy Puppy fan group, where she helped fellow fan Eggman practice playing. Attending Puppy Con, Zooey traded game pieces with Amy when she saw Eggman's attempt to steal a rare playing piece, which Amy foiled in a game of Fuzzy Puppies using Zooey's trade.[10]

Season two[]

When Tails had to leave on a dangerous mission with his team, Zooey came to see him off at the outskirts of the Village.[11] Soon after, she would vote in a referendum for a new name for the Unnamed Village.[12] When the Village then got overrun by malware-infected robots, Zooey was inspired by Knuckles to help Team Sonic and the villagers fight the robots. Ultimately, the Village prevailed when the robots withdrew.[13] When local gossip then revealed that Dr. Eggman was no doctor, Zooey began seeing him as a joke. She thus joined the villagers in mocking Eggman during the scientist's next trip to the Village, although Eggman later got a real doctorate.[14]

Perci Staci and Zooey

Eventually, Zooey saw Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles walk by while taking care of baby Chumley, and was moved by the sweet sight.[15] When Race Day then arrived several months later, Zooey would watch said event's auto race competition at its site.[16] Getting into Scrambler after that, Zooey was able to attend an exclusive promotional event through it.[17] Resuming her daily routine, Zooey went to her nightly meeting with her book club in the library. There, she and her group got interrupted when Vector and his crew came and accused one of them of theft, only to be proven wrong.[18]

Game appearances[]

In Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom, Zooey made a small appearance on the High Score menu, holding the eighth place with a score of 225,000 points.

Personality[]

Zooey is a gentle and soft-spoken person. She is very considerate, as she was worried about Tails' strange behavior when he tried to talk to her. She is likewise grateful to those who help her.[8]

Relationships[]

Miles "Tails" Prower[]

SB S1E40 Tails and Zooey

Zooey has known about Tails for a while but was seemingly unaware of his crush on her at first. As such, whenever she met Tails, she would give him a casual friendly greeting. When Tails tried to approach her about his feelings, only for it to go wrong, Zooey would grow both concerned for Tails and uncomfortable around him. After Tails saved her from Giant Robot, however, Zooey began reciprocating Tails' feelings which she marked by kissing him.[8] Since then, they have remained in a healthy relationship. Zooey particularly came to see Tails off when he went out on a dangerous mission once, showing that she cares very much about him.[11]

Friends/allies[]

Trivia[]

  • Many fans speculated Zooey would be Tails' love interest before her identity and role were revealed in "Tails' Crush", mainly because of a reaction Tails had in "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Worse-er".
  • Zooey is the second character in a Sonic TV series whom Tails had a crush on, the first being Cosmo from Sonic X.
