The Lost Crystal of Power,[1] also known as simply the Lost Crystal or Crystal, is an object that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a crystal of unlimited power that originally belonged to the Ancients. To keep it from Lyric however, the Ancients shattered it and hid its pieces. Thousands of years later, Lyric began a relentless search for it to build his empire.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Lost Crystal is a fairly large object, about the same size as the standard Ancient. It is a transparent and slim crystal with pointy ends, though its coloration is a bit inconsistent: in the in-game comic of Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal it is colored light blue while in the gameplay it is purple.

Powers and traits[]

The Lost Crystal is a relic of unlimited power, though its exact properties are unknown. Those that possess it will gain virtual omnipotence,[2] effectively giving its wielder the power of a god.

Overview[]

Lost Crystal being broken

The Lost Crystal being shattered by the Ancients, from Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.

In Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, the Lost Crystal of Power originally belonged to the benevolent Ancients. However, 5.000 years ago, an Ancient called Lyric went mad with power and sought the Lost Crystal to build his own empire. When Lyric was on the verge of seizing the Lost Crystal during an attack on their temple however, the last surviving Ancients broke it into forty Crystal Shards, which they used to imprisoned Lyric with. Knowing though that Lyric would one day escape, the Ancients scattered the Crystal Shards to keep their power away from him.[1][2][3]

In the present day, Lyric escaped and began searching for the Crystal Shards. Meanwhile, Amy Rose discovered a secret ancient manuscript detailing the history and whereabouts of the Lost Crystal.[1] Lyric thus kidnapped Amy to probe her mind for the information on the Lost Crystal's fragment, but was stopped by Team Sonic and Shadow. During their journey, the team also found the Crystal Shards and rebuild the Lost Crystal.

In the gameplay of Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, one of the side quests is collecting all forty Crystal Shards hidden in the adventure levels and reassemble the Lost Crystal. By bringing the collected Crystal Shards to Sticks' Burrow, which is first unlocked after clearing Seaside Jungle, she can repair the Lost Crystal. The Lost Crystal itself is also depicted on the top screen of the loading screen for each level. At the start of the game, this image of the Lost Crystal is completely dark and split into several parts, illustrating its dispersion. Repairing the Lost Crystal will fill in various spots on it, affecting the way it looks during loading times. After fully restoring the Lost Crystal, the player earns a purple Token that can be used to purchase the 61st toy in Q-N-C's Toy Shop.
